My little patio garden – in April

Meanwhile I am thrilled to watch my tiny patio garden come to life and marvel at all the overwintering plants and perennials, new growth, and my lovely little lizards that are happily sun tanning. Today I even observed one hunting! They eat ground and flying insects, several kinds of spiders, also berries and they willContinue reading “My little patio garden – in April”

I grew this feast – a seasonal course to grow your own vegetables – Week 1

And not just vegetables but nutrient packed gourmet vegetables! I am so lucky that a good friend of mine told me about this program and very excited to finally learn how to properly prepare beds, start seeds, transplant, watch, and of course eat my own freshly harvested vegetables. The growing part is a miracle inContinue reading “I grew this feast – a seasonal course to grow your own vegetables – Week 1”

Spring, not just in the rain forest!

During my walks the last couple of weeks the forest has really started to change. Lush, bright green leaves everywhere from ground covers to shrubs, and those glorious spring flowers in the forest. Indian Plum (Oemleria cerasiformis) is one of the earliest shrubs to leaf out and produce little clusters of white flowers which haveContinue reading “Spring, not just in the rain forest!”

Day 22: La Villa to Malga Ciapella – 18km

Going to have to take the bus, in fact 2 buses to catch back up with my route. First to Corvara where I walked from yesterday and then from there to the Passo Pordoi at 2239m (7345ft). The connection is not the best, either super early and I would miss breakfast (not an option asContinue reading “Day 22: La Villa to Malga Ciapella – 18km”

Day 16: Pfunders (Fondres) to Starkenfeldhuette – 18.5km

Quick breakfast and then the difficult decision. Am I taking the bus for the first bit or walking the whole stretch! Not feeling super energetic but I have all day and there are no steep downhills, that’s what generally slows me down. As I missed the bus by 10 minutes and they run on anContinue reading “Day 16: Pfunders (Fondres) to Starkenfeldhuette – 18.5km”

Day 10: Wattens – a recovery day and Svarovski Kristallwelten (6km)

Slept in, had a fabulous breakfast and then spent more than 2 hours figuring out how to get from the Lizumer Hütte to Hintertux in 2 days as well as coming up with a general plan for the next week. I might steer into the direction of Bozen or Bolzano in Italian to see aContinue reading “Day 10: Wattens – a recovery day and Svarovski Kristallwelten (6km)”

Day 3 and 4: Geretsried to Bad Tölz – 18km

Didn’t sleep well last night although my body was exhausted. Walking into town for dinner was just a bit much for my feet! Had too much going on in my head. After I leave the Lizumer Hütte on day 9 I have no reservations and my 2 options were completely booked when I checked lastContinue reading “Day 3 and 4: Geretsried to Bad Tölz – 18km”
