This is a trip of a lifetime for many reasons but the foundation of this experience is travelling with friends and everyone being independent at the same time! It’s been more than 2 weeks since we left Canada, in fact the trip is slowly coming to an end. We made it to Tokyo first forContinue reading “Trip of a lifetime”

Day 27: Rifugio Carestiato to Rifugio Sommariva al Pramperet – 14km
Today was supposed to be a rainy day. Big surprise in the morning when there was sun and some blue skies visible. Still the afternoon was going to be wet and thunderstorms would be very likely. I managed to leave at 8:00am and later I was so glad I did! The first 2km went alongContinue reading “Day 27: Rifugio Carestiato to Rifugio Sommariva al Pramperet – 14km”
Day 18: Maurerberghuette to La Villa – 16.5km
Difficult decision today to cancel the Schlueterhuette and not continue to the Puezhuette. The forecast was for lots of rain, massive thunderstorms all over the Alps, possibly lasting a week. It was supposed to start raining around 1:00pm. There were a few drops, sometimes strong winds telling a story that was to come. Couldn’t believeContinue reading “Day 18: Maurerberghuette to La Villa – 16.5km”
Day 17: Starkenfeldhuette to Maurerberghuette – 15.5km
Beautiful breakfast buffet and after a relaxed morning I headed out just before 9:00am. After all it was a beautiful day and the distance/elevation to cover was less than the day before. This was definitely one of my favourite days so far. All day long I hiked along the Dolorama (nothing to do with Dollarama)Continue reading “Day 17: Starkenfeldhuette to Maurerberghuette – 15.5km”
Day 16: Pfunders (Fondres) to Starkenfeldhuette – 18.5km
Quick breakfast and then the difficult decision. Am I taking the bus for the first bit or walking the whole stretch! Not feeling super energetic but I have all day and there are no steep downhills, that’s what generally slows me down. As I missed the bus by 10 minutes and they run on anContinue reading “Day 16: Pfunders (Fondres) to Starkenfeldhuette – 18.5km”
Day 15: Pfitscherjoch Haus to Pfunders – 10km
Still not feeling 100% I decided I was not going to take the long and strenuous hike across the Gliederscharte. It made me a little sad but I thought about it this way: if I was hiking in a group and one of us wasn’t feeling that great we would have ammended plans and takenContinue reading “Day 15: Pfitscherjoch Haus to Pfunders – 10km”
Day 14: Hintertux to Pfitscherjoch Haus, a short day – 9km – across the watershed and into Italy!
Arranged for 2 more days of accommodation to come, had breakfast, packed up, and headed out of the valley by bus to Mayerhofen. Many, many years ago had I been here with a whole gang of people for skiing. I was 16 then, so a while ago. And has it grown ever since. Beautiful butContinue reading “Day 14: Hintertux to Pfitscherjoch Haus, a short day – 9km – across the watershed and into Italy!”
Day 10: Wattens – a recovery day and Svarovski Kristallwelten (6km)
Slept in, had a fabulous breakfast and then spent more than 2 hours figuring out how to get from the Lizumer Hütte to Hintertux in 2 days as well as coming up with a general plan for the next week. I might steer into the direction of Bozen or Bolzano in Italian to see aContinue reading “Day 10: Wattens – a recovery day and Svarovski Kristallwelten (6km)”
