Day 17: Starkenfeldhuette to Maurerberghuette – 15.5km

Beautiful breakfast buffet and after a relaxed morning I headed out just before 9:00am. After all it was a beautiful day and the distance/elevation to cover was less than the day before.

This was definitely one of my favourite days so far. All day long I hiked along the Dolorama (nothing to do with Dollarama) which is the panorama trail in the Dolomites.

It was a constant up and down, some steep alpine meadows, more cows, and all the time getting closer to the big mountains and the impressive Peitlerkofel (2875m).

I passed the Kreuzwiesenalm early in the day, too early for a break and then had a 360 view from the peak of the Campil (2190m).

Crossed over the Luesner Alm where the vegetation instantly changed. More low growing juniper, blue berries, mosses, not the lush alpine meadows anymore.

Found a little shade below some larch trees, and then more cows and another hill. Really enjoyed having more leisure time and not having to rush myself.

Passed the Glittnersee with the Peitlerkofel in the background, down a steep path through a meadow which was completely occupied by these four legged.

Today was very versatile in ways of cow fencing. Every gate and pathway was completely different it seemed, so it never got boring. From cattle guards, to electric fencing, to big gates, tiny walkways, climbing over fences (making sure you don’t touch the wires on the outside), or crawling under fences!

There were mushrooms and flowers too of course.

A 6 Ender was chasing a young buck right next to me, it all happened so quickly. Getting closer to the Maurerberghuette the mountains came closer and closer. There were basically just overnight guests there after I arrived which was lovely and quiet.

Once again I had a bunk room to myself and dinner was great and came instantly.

The weather forecast was a bit worrisome as the next days showed rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon, in fact there was a massive weather warning for all of the alps for the coming week. What to do?
