Day 5: Bad Tölz to Tutzinger Hütte – 25km

It’s been a while since I had a chance to post anything. No reception, no wifi, an empty phone battery, and a blocked SIM card but here we go. Woke up at 4:30 and it was pouring rain. Just grateful I wasn’t hiking! Went back to sleep until just after 6:00 and decided to getContinue reading “Day 5: Bad Tölz to Tutzinger Hütte – 25km”

Day 3 and 4: Geretsried to Bad Tölz – 18km

Didn’t sleep well last night although my body was exhausted. Walking into town for dinner was just a bit much for my feet! Had too much going on in my head. After I leave the Lizumer Hütte on day 9 I have no reservations and my 2 options were completely booked when I checked lastContinue reading “Day 3 and 4: Geretsried to Bad Tölz – 18km”

Day 2: Kloster Schaeftlarn to Geretsried – 24km +

What was supposed to be a shorter day ended up a longer day than the first one. By taking a different route not all the way through Wolfratshausen I think I did a detour? Took some time in the morning to visit the monastry gardens and the church. The gardens host more than 80 differentContinue reading “Day 2: Kloster Schaeftlarn to Geretsried – 24km +”

Day 1: Munich to Kloster Schäftlarn – 22km

I made it! Not sure how as it was painful, hot, humid, sweaty, and gazillions of mosquitos in the forest. I guess they kept me moving! Took the train to downtown Munich and then left Marienplatz around 10:30. Quite late for a day of hiking but I was super frantic in the morning trying toContinue reading “Day 1: Munich to Kloster Schäftlarn – 22km”

A bouquet of wildflowers

I picked myself a wonderful bouquet of flowers last night. All growing alongside the road and in the meadows everywhere right now. It also transported me back to my childhood, remembering I had done this many times before. A way of being in the moment, time does not exist as you walk from flower toContinue reading “A bouquet of wildflowers”

Bear Hill Hike – 22km

Our longest hike yet! Roundtrip 22km, 611m altitude gain and 673 altitude loss. We had fabulous weather, stopped at Dan’s Farm for a snack and drink, went up Bear Hill, down to Elk Lake and a big loop back to Brentwood Bay. The puppies are always happy to get their ration of snacks and waterContinue reading “Bear Hill Hike – 22km”

Hiking – a way of getting connected!

Hiking has always been something I liked to do. Often more like walking, especially walking the dogs, but this year it has become more intense, a different importance, a different level. Through all these early months of 2020 (the year of Covid 19 when the world came to a stop), a lot of us allContinue reading “Hiking – a way of getting connected!”
