Day 31: Venice – 11km

Went out exploring again the next day, where ever my feet would take me. Had an Americano every morning and a little sweet pastry. Found a bench close to the canal and watched the birds.

Across bridges, through alleys, into courtyards, across piazzas,….

Got lost more than once in the way back.

Past several little markets and had 2 red and 2 green figs for lunch and a giant Italian plum.

Visited a few churches, did some shopping, all real cheap and lots of it a lot more fashionable. Found a shoe designer but unfortunately the shoes didn’t fit me. Maybe it was a good thing! Had to buy myself a mask, always was enchanted by them and could not stop taking pictures all day.

Had lunch at a pizza place „La Perla“ after scanning what everybody had for lunch. If it‘s a busy place and you can hear lots of Italian spoken that’s usually a good sign. Had a salad and „Pizza Porcini“.

Stood on a bridge and all of a sudden there it was. Unmistakable a “Lush” scent. I turned around and there was the store. As I had lost my shampoo bar on day 6 I decided it was time to restock! From now on I am only going to carry my backpack to and from the train station not across mountains anymore.

Then I actually made it to Piazza San Marco, the Basilica, the Doge Palace. It was late afternoon so I decided to not go in. I could always come back tomorrow, I thought!

A brief stop at the botanical gardens and the first and original, former Harry’s Bar.

Lots of expensive and very expensive stores, the usual brands like Gucci, Cartier,….. around the Piazza de St. Marco but also lots of art and really amazing stores.

Love all the different ornamental door knocks.

Watched a couple of fish (Cefalo – grey mullet). Love them, they are everywhere in the canals, so peaceful. They live where sea and freshwater mix.

A piazza where everybody met: older people, a single lady reading a giant book on a bench, families, people going for dinner or having a drink at the bar, the teenage girl skateboard gang, dogs, little kids playing chase, roller skating, with scooters,……

Too tired to go for dinner, so I got myself something to eat at the Coop around the corner and off to bed.
