One week left before departure and sooo much to do still.
I have been assembling and collecting the “right gear” now for weeks, see the next post about details. I am fulfilling a dream of mine that I have had for at least 15 years. On one of my visits back to Germany I picked up a hiking guide across the Alps from Munich to Venice. The idea had never left me as I always wanted to travel by foot, with my own strength, very slowly – like people in the past may have done. Seeing how the landscape changes, the mountain ranges, the temperatures, the way the air smells differently, the food, the people,….. Something that is very hard to make space for in our busy lives. And when this year my entire season was cancelled due to Covid 19 and I had plans to see my dad for his 85th birthday, I saw this as the awesome opportunity for me, the once in a lifetime chance, once everything started reopening in Europe.

It is going to take me 28 days plus a few possible resting days, about 520 km (about 320 miles), and 22,000 metres (13 + miles) in elevation changes. I am going to use an updated version of this guide though that came out in 2016.
I am so looking forward to doing this all on my own, at my own speed, in my own bubble, walking to myself!
